The Ayahuasca brew is among the most significant of the ritual plant complexes occurring throughout the Amazon basin. Since time immemorial the indigenous people of the forests have combined the tryptamine-rich leaves of Psychotria viridis or "Chacruna" with sections of the jungle liana Banisteriopsis Caapi, the Ayahuasca vine, to yield a powerfully potent entheogenic drink called Ayahuasca or Yagé.
Usage Fresh or dried leaves are mixed with the vines or the husk of Banisteriopsis Caapi and cooked. The preparation is drunk as Ayahuasca.
