Their subterranean feature is what separates magic truffles from Psilocybe Cubensis. Magic truffles are a mold while their flowering parts are the mushrooms. They also contain the psychoactive substances Psilocybin and Psilocin just like magic mushrooms. An example of good quality magic truffle is Psilocybe Hollandia.
Magic truffles grow below the ground and magic mushrooms, one among which is Psilocybe Cubensis, grow above the ground and this is the biggest difference between them. Magic truffles are molds or fungal material. They are typically small, nutty, hard and oddly shaped brown clusters of fungal material. The mushroom is the fruit part of the molds. The mold’s biggest part is underground and they grow for about four months. The underground parts are referred to as mycelium. The fruiting body or the mushroom is the mold’s flower. It is this fruiting body that spread the seeds for procreation. The magic truffle is the thickening of the mycelium. Some people deploy pigs to smell magic truffles out from the ground. Magic truffles are a type of sclerotia and the three types of mushrooms whose mycelium can form sclerotia are Psilocybe Tampanesis, Psilocybe Mexicana and Psilocybe Atlantis.
Shrooms tripping effects
For their tripping effects, there is not much of a difference between Cubensis and sclerotia. For conversion sake, one can assume roughly that one gram of dried Cubensis is equivalent to five grams of fresh sclerotia. But it would be dangerous to assume that truffles are less potent than Psilocybe Cubensis and it would depend on the individual reactions of users. Also when quantities of more than 30 grams are consumed in one go, magic truffles can induce very strong hallucinatory effects.
Psilocybe Tampanesis is extremely rare and thus a very hard find in the wild. In fact, all truffles belonging to this variety are descendants of the very first sample unearthed from Tampa, Florida in 1977. They have a nutty flavor and produce a sharp and long lasting aftertaste. Psilocybe Mexicana as its name suggests has its origins in Mexico and was introduced to the Western world in the 1950’s. Psilocybe Atlantis is the strongest sclerotia among the three.
Magic mushrooms are harvested in three layers. Each harvest has varying amounts of psychoactive substances. This is the reason why magic mushrooms are unpredictable in their effects while using. Magic truffles on the other hands have a constant amount of psychoactive substances. But most magic truffles have a sour taste. This is due to the vast amounts of moisture contained in them.
Both magic mushrooms and magic truffles contain psilocin and psilocybin which are psychoactive substances that induce hallucinations. Psilocybin is found in different concentrations in over 200 species of mushrooms. The human body converts the psilocybin to psilocin. Psilocin has an effect similar to serotonin on reaching the brain.
Psilocybe Pajateros – One of the best varieties of magic truffles
One of the best varieties of magic truffles is the strain Psilocybe Pajateros, which is an improved form of magic mushrooms. This strain is based on the mycelium of the Psilocybe Cubensis mushroom. This magic truffle attains full growth at 12 months, in which time it gives 40 to 180 grams of truffle, which is considerably more than normal. There are several benefits for this variety of magic truffles. They have a growth period of 12 months and due to this longer period compared to other magic truffles they produce more dry substances and also weigh in more. It also has a nutty taste in deference to the sour taste of other magic truffles. The effect is also more positive than ordinary magic mushrooms and several users from different countries have vouched for this fact.
In the Netherlands, magic truffles are legal while magic mushrooms are illegal. But this is not the case elsewhere in the world, where any substance containing psilocybin and psilocin are banned. Magic truffles go by various names such as philosopher’s stones, Amsterdam truffles, Pandora, psilo truffles, galindoi, dragons etc.
